Buying Heavy Duty Shelving
Are you running out of space to store things? Do you have lots of heavy yet delicate objects to store? Do you need more space? You should consider looking into some Heavy Duty Shelving. You may think you don't have room, but some shelving units can be surprisingly compact. If you are facing the need to expand your storage capability, here is some information you should know about the different types of heavy duty shelves available.
Aesthetic appeal is the first consideration to consider. It doesn't matter too much how a unit for your closet or basement storage area is going to look, but if it is going to be in your living room, that is a different matter. Pretty looking shelves will look more like bookcases, but will also cost quite a bit more than the wire and metal shelving units. If you're looking for something for the high visibility areas, Basyx does some very nice heavy duty bookcases for around 200 dollars.
Heavy Duty Shelving made of wire or metal can be cheaper. The cheapest found online is made by Thunder Group and starts at about 14 to 20 dollars. These are wire shelves, but they can hold about 600 pounds per shelf. Other companies that make Heavy Duty Shelving are Edsal and Hirsh. Both of these make metal shelving units. Edsal shelves start at around 30 dollars and by the time you get to 100 dollars they are industrial grade. Hirsh shelving units start around 60 dollar, but end up at about the same price as Edsal for industrial grade shelving. A possible, but often very expensive, option is to get a shelving unit where the shelves roll or slide out. This can be great if you are pressed for space, but it will cost you an extra 400 dollars or so.

So if you are considering buying Heavy Duty Shelving, think carefully about what you need. Don't buy a unit that can hold 1,000 pounds per shelf, if you only need to hold 300. You need the right tool for the job, and that's true in a storage situation as well. Happy Shopping. |
